On 4th October 2004, the Impossible Beings classic ‘Too Late’ will be released as part of End Recordings’ limited edition back catalogue remix series End Rec Collect. Featuring the original backed by two darkly impressive remixes from Mantis Recordings’ Brooks; this is an essential release for all fans of the original Balearic track plus all those partial to crunching metal machine funk.

When ‘Too Late’ was originally released in 2001 it became one of the most in demand releases ever on End Recordings. Hailed as a quality nu-house summertime jam, it was taken to the hearts of DJs including Miguel Migs, Mr Scruff, Ben Watt, Lottie, Charles Webster, Rob Mello, Ashley Beedle, Layo & Bushwacka, David Duriez and Funk D’Void. It’s easy to see why – with its melodic loop, shimmering echoic vocal and dreamy synths, this gorgeous track evokes an endless summer, and will remain a staple of any self respecting DJ’s box for some time to come.

With the limited edition remixes on ENDCOL2, listeners get the best of both worlds, as in Brooks’ capable hands the track moves from day to night on the flipside. His Missed It Vocal Mix takes the original, strips it down and dresses it up in robo-kit. Accentuating a lo-fi Chicago house edge, Brooks teases out the beats, also playing with arcade game effects, phone bleeps and a driving bass line. Meanwhile the instrumental tightens the musical nuts and bolts taking the track further into a Pac Man funk zone.

‘Tool Late’ (Brooks’ Remixes) shows just why the production artists, as well as the track, are such firm favourites with The End. Impossible Beings are the End Recordings signing whose talent and breadth of musical vision make them a key part of the label. Similarly, those familiar with Brooks’ work will have found plenty to impress in his 2002 album You, Me and Us, his seminal hip house mix of the Clyde track ‘Serve It Up, and his latest album Red Tape (Mantis). This boy is going places and so is this release: do not miss this highly collectable remix package out now on End Recordings.
